2022 – 23 New Year’s Eve Countdown at Times Square Video
Here’s our captured video from the NYC Times Square New Year’s Eve Countdown on December 31, 2022:
There we were at the 2022 New Year’s Eve Times Square celebration. Counting down from the 60 second mark to the point when the clock struck twelve, and 2023 officially arrived. Thousands were there despite the falling drizzle and occasionally moderate rainfall. It was at that moment that confetti fell from the skies and pyrotechnics shot out from the top of One Times Square as “Auld Lang Syne” belted out from huge loudspeakers; followed by Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York”.
Fortunately, the temperatures were in the low 50s with a mild breeze. Despite that, faces looked glum all around. Was it the rain? ‘or the lack of encouragement from empty stages and hosts?
Performances (of which there were very few) existed mainly for their televised value. Evident from the fact that few on the ground could barely get a glimpse of the performers on stage. Such was the case when we attended in 2019 and again in 2021.
You’d think that every happening (announcements from Ryan Seacrest and occasional performance, of which there were very few) would be screened from the countless billboards of Times Square. Yes, there was that random display and yes, down near 42nd street there were actual screens but how many could see that far? How many even knew? Not that it’d matter.
And even that random display from one or more specific billboard(s) wasn’t enough to get folks going. Although, distributed balloons did make a difference for about an hour or so. But hey! It is what it is. Revelers show up for one thing specifically and that’s the ball drop/countdown. An experience to remember and cherish.
