Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership Hosts Annual Celebrate Flatiron Partnerships Networking Event
—Flatiron Partnership unveils winner of the fourth annual holiday art installation competition at the event—
(New York, N.Y.) – Hosted by the Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership Business Improvement District (BID), hundreds of neighborhood business owners, employees, and residents turned out to “Celebrate Flatiron Partnerships” on Thursday, October 26.
Flatiron’s largest annual networking event, “Celebrate Flatiron Partnerships 2017”, was held at The Penthouse and Rooftop Bar at 230 FIFTH. The event was co-chaired by Flatiron Partnership Board Members Nick Athanail and Jane Gural-Senders and celebrated the neighborhood and 11 years of service by the BID.
“We are lucky to have so many amazing partners, neighbors and friends,” said Jennifer Brown, the BID’s Executive Director, in her opening remarks. “It makes our work very meaningful – and very fun – to have your involvement and support.”
At the event, the Flatiron Partnership and Van Alen Institute Executive Director David van der Leer unveiled the winner of the fourth annual Flatiron Public Plaza Holiday Installation Design Competition, in which eight design firms submitted proposals for a dynamic public art fixture to be anchored in the Flatiron North Public Plaza at 23rd Street, Fifth Avenue and Broadway over the holidays.
The closed-call competition began in June 2017, when the Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership and Van Alen Institute—a non-profit organizer of design competitions, public programs, and research—invited design and architecture firms to submit proposals.
The winning installation— Flatiron Reflection by Deirdre and Nicholas McDermott, principals of Future Expansion— will be the centerpiece of the Flatiron Partnership’s sixth annual “23 Days of Flatiron Cheer” program, which will feature performances, contests, hot beverage giveaways, and much more. Holiday programming is made possible by generous sponsors, including Meringoff Properties (Presenting Sponsor), 212 Fifth Avenue and Sony Square NYC (Supporting Sponsors), and Porcelanosa (Contributing Sponsor).
