NYC Board of Elections: Early Voting Hours Extended for the Coming Weekend
Yesterday, the Board of Elections announced that early voting hours would be extended for the coming weekend.
Following are the new hours followed respectively by the previous hours for each day:
Friday, Oct. 30: 7:00 am – 5:00 pm
Old Hours: 7:00 am – 3:00 pm
Saturday, Oct. 31: 7:00 am – 5:00 pm
Old Hours: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Sunday, Nov. 1: 7:00 am – 4:00 pm
Old Hours: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
This comes a day after NYC Mayor de Blasio’s call for them to extend hours and increase staffing and machines.
“We cannot at this crucial moment see people discouraged. Here’s what I’m calling on the Board of Elections to do,” said the Mayor on Monday. “Right away the BOE must increase the number of voting machines and must ensure the staff is available at early voting sites to help people vote quickly and efficiently … and not be discouraged from voting.”
When asked about this yesterday whilst he stood on a line for over three hours to vote in Park Slope, Brooklyn the mayor stated that it wasn’t enough. They needed to do more. “More staff, more machines, whatever it takes because people are trying to perform a sacred responsibility. And look, three hours in line, that’s crazy.”
