NYC COVID-19 Frontline Heroes honored on International Firefighters Day by Mayor de Blasio, FDNY Commissioner and others
On May 4, 2020, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio made an appearance at EMS Station 4 in observance of International Firefighters Day. There, at Pier 36, he would thank our Frontline Heroes and help distribute meals to the city’s emergency personnel stationed at that location. Also on hand would be FDNY Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro, FDNY Chief John Sudnik, Chief of EMS Lillian Bonsignore, First Deputy Commissioner Kavanagh, NYC Food Czar Kathryn Garcia and others.
“Today, on International Firefighter’s Day, we’re celebrating the entire FDNY family. We appreciate all of you in the way you handled something none of us could have imagined, a pandemic. When you hear that word, it feels like something that would ever happen to us in real life,” said the Mayor.
He would go on to thank the personnel present followed a word from the FDNY Commissioner. They would all then begin to distribute the donated food packages.
Attached to each of the many numerous food packages would be a note from Chef Harold Moore who has contributed to the FrontlineFoods.org non-profit organization which works with local restaurants in providing meals to the COVID-19 Frontline workers.

About Frontline Foods:
“”Fuel the fight against COVID-19″”
“”Our army of volunteers raises funds from the community to support local restaurants and feed heroes working on the frontlines.””
Following would be the words as they appear on the notes found attached to the food donations.
To the Frontline Workers and First Responders of New York,
On behalf of myself and my team, I just want all of you to understand how deeply we appreciate your efforts in battling the COVID-19 pandemic. As workers, you have se the example for us all, putting your work first. You have left your friends, your families and your homes to take on a mission that cannot be quantified in dollars or hours. As people, you have shown us strength, courage and an incredible amount of compassion.
It has been so incredibly fulfilling to have had the opportunity to partner with Frontline Foods during this crisis. Front Foods has given myself and my team purpose. It is our duty to give our frontline workers everything that they need to combat this pandemic and, for us, our contribution is by providing the fuel that they need to keep pushing through the endless hours and sacrifice.
We are so grateful for all for those that have donated to this incredible cause. Over 5 million dollars has been raised and over 300,000 meals have been served, not only in New York, but across the country. Frontline Foods has a simple mission, but its ability to help so many has been amazing. We have been able to re-hire workers that would otherwise be out of work, purchase foods from farmers and purveyors that would otherwise be without orders and, more importantly, feed our heroes.
New York City has always been strong and, as New Yorkers, we always come together in the hardest of times. To see how the city has come together during this particular time, with our frontline workers and first responders paving the way, has been incredible. One day, when this is all over we will look back on this with pride, remembering how we came together to conquer this thing.
I am so proud of the community that we have built and continue to build.
Thank you, Chef Harold Moore
