[Brooklyn, New York, May 2023] Arts Gowanus is excited to present their second annual spring fundraiser, the Patterns Gala! This outdoor event will be held at The Old Stone House on May 12, 2023 from 6 – 9:30 p.m. Attendees are strongly encouraged to wear the craziest patterns they can! There will be art, food, drink, live music, raffles, and more. Ticket price: $125.

The gala is critical for supporting Arts Gowanus’ advocacy and programming. Over the next few years, Arts Gowanus needs to dramatically grow its infrastructure before taking stewardship of 28,000-square feet of affordable studio space and a community center that the organization negotiated as part of the Gowanus rezoning plan.

Arts Gowanus will honor NYC Comptroller Brad Lander and the Land Use Division’s Julia Ehrman at this year’s gala. During the years-long rezoning process, Arts Gowanus and Brad Lander (then city councilmember) and Julia Ehrman (the Land Use and Budget Director at Brad Lander’s office) negotiated with several developers on the Community Benefit Agreement (CBA) to ensure an affordable and sustainable future for the Gowanus arts community.

The Patterns Gala will also feature an auction, with more than 50 amazing artworks from incredible local artists. The auction began online April 28 and ends at the Gala at 9 p.m.

About Arts Gowanus

Arts Gowanus is a not-for-profit organization working to support, promote, and advocate for local artists and a sustainable arts community in Brooklyn.

We nurture relationships among individual artists, arts organizations, local businesses, and the community. We produce open studio events, professional development workshops, public art works, artistic collaborations, and exhibitions. Our mission is to ensure artists remain a crucial part of the neighborhood identity.

We believe that the diverse creativity of local artists contributes to the singularly vibrant cultural life and energy of New York City. It is critical not only for the artists, but also society in general, that the arts continue to thrive in Gowanus. We are committed to using art to build deeper community relationships and a more equitable neighborhood.
