Join them for a reception and panel discussion on the work and legacy of Chinese sculptor Liu Shiming (1926-2010). His sculptors have made a distinct impact on the course of modern Chinese sculpture art. Following the panel discussion, they will hold a ceremony in the Joseph N. Schor Reading Room for the installation of “Someone who wants to fly,” a sculpture by Liu Shiming which is being donated to the College. Panelists include Maria Cristina Po, Fran Kaufman, and Louise Weinberg.
I think that sculpture should be focused on people and the depiction of people, because people are social beings and creators of art. When we lose people and the human spirit, art loses its soul — Liu Shiming.
