This evening we got word from the Office the Governor of NY State alerting us to something special.

The Corning Tower at Empire State Plaza had been lit with the words “New York Tough” spelt out on its windows. Done in honor of the healthcare professionals and essential workers at the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Governor Cuomo statement: “Healthcare professionals and essential workers are the ones on the front lines every day carrying us through this crisis. New Yorkers owe their lives to these true heroes who define what it means to be ‘New York Tough,’ and remind us that even if it is a long day, love wins – always. Tonight, the windows of the Corning Tower are illuminated with New York Tough in their honor.”

Coincidentally, the Governor would utter those very words at the end of his daily COVID-19 Press Briefing:

When we talk about New York tough, we are all New York tough, Democrats and Republicans. We’re all smart, we’re all disciplined, and we’re all unified, and we’re all in this together and we understand that and that’s how we operate. We operate with love and we’re strong enough to say love. Say love is not a weakness. It is a strength and New Yorkers are that strong.
