The Can-Do Yard: WWII at the Brooklyn Navy Yard tour
Saturday 12/7 (Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day edition). Sunday 1/5, 1/19, 2/2 and 3/2. 11am – 1pm.

FREE for WWII veterans. $30 all others. Veterans, current and former military personnel and members of BLDG 92 receive a 10% discount.
Turnstile Tours and BLDG 92 evoke the Yard during World War II on this interactive tour drawing from the experiences of the 70,000 wartime workers who made it the “Can-Do” Yard. Visitors will explore the role of New York City’s waterfront in the war effort and make connections between the Yard and famous battles of WWII. Highlights include the Naval Hospital campus, the Naval Film Exchange, a working dry dock, and legendary sites in the surrounding community. Jazz musician and the Navy Yard’s first African-American photography director passed away last year at the age of 101. A Bed-Stuy local, his great American story and selections of his work—including his capture of the USS Constellation blaze, one of Brooklyn’s most disastrous—are now on view at BLDG 92. In a new art installation and exhibit, four women working in the Yard today reflect on the experiences of women who entered its gates for the very first time seven decades earlier. Incorporating oral histories, sculpture and fashion, “Reflections on Rosie” explores the irrevocable transformation of women in WWII and celebrates the legacy of contemporary female entrepreneurs.
